NEHER, BERNHARD, PROFESSOR; DIRECTOR OF STUTTGART SCHOOL OF ART

Letter from Professor Bernhard Neher to Ludwig Gruner offering to have a facsimile of his Raphael drawing made for the Prince Consort.

17 Feb 1861

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/478

Letter from Professor Neher, (enclosed with VIC/ADDA10/85/477), writes that he has heard from Dr Hrtel that both Gruner and the Prince Consort wish to have a photographic copy of the small head of a Grace (by Raphael) which he possesses, and he is sorry that attempts to achieve this hitherto have failed.

He is pleased to say now, however, that he can have a faithful copy of the drawing made by a skilful young artist at a cost of 6 Louis d'or. The artist can begin as soon as this is agreed, and Neher will supervise the work himself, and make sure the copy is the same size and uses the same colours as the original.

He adds a postscript asking Gruner to give his regards to Professors Kietschel and Hüber, old friends of his.

See VIC/ADDA10/486 for Neher's letter to Gruner sending the copy he himself has made of the drawing.
