GRUNER, LUDWIG: DIRECTOR OF THE KÖNIGLICHES KUPFERSTICH-KABINETT, DRESDEN

Letter from Ludwig Gruner to Dr. Ernst Becker asking whether the Prince already has photographs of certain works by Raphael, which he can send if required.

30 Nov 1858

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (2 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/272

Writing from Dresden, Gruner asks whether the Prince has [photographs of] the cartoon of the School of Athens and of Raphael's drawing of the Archangel Michael, both in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan, and whether a large reproduction of the original painting of the Marriage of the Virgin (Sposalizio) would be welcome. He has all three and can send them. His index to the marriage festivities of 1709 is ready and he will send it too. He asks for a quick reply. A note by Becker on the letter dated 3 December 1858 records that he has asked Gruner to send further details.
