GEORGE JOHN SACKVILLE-WEST, 5TH EARL DE LA WARR (1791-1869)

Letter from Lord De La Warr to Sir James Graham

12 Oct 1843

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (2 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/MAIN/M/52/4a

Lord De La Warr states that Queen Victoria does not wish her refusal to take a box at Covent Garden Theatre for the forthcoming season to be considered as an act advised by a minister [in relation to the Anti-Corn Law meetings], but simply as an exercise of her own pleasure. He states that Sir [Henry] Wheatley has been directed not to give a reason for this proceeding. Copy.
