PASSAVANT, JOHANN DAVID, PROFESSOR; CURATOR OF THE STÄDEL'SCHES KUNSTITUT IN FRANKFURT, BIOGRAPHER OF RAPHAEL
Letter from J.D. Passavant to Charles Ruland revising his request for photographs of the Raphael Cartoons.
13 Jun 1860Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/462
Passavant writes that since his previous letter (see VIC/ADDA10/85/461) he has seen Dr Becker, who has explained that only 30 of the 40 photographic studies from the Raphael Cartoons are required for a complete set: the other 10 are only different attempts at the studies he has already received.
As the Städel Institute has 28 of them, only two are missing, one of which is probably the head of Ananias. Passavant asks Ruland to have just these two sent to him, together with the 5 studies from Christ's Charge to Peter which Professor Steinle wishes to have.
Related Material: For related correspondence, see VIC/ADDA10/85/461.
