PASSAVANT, JOHANN DAVID, PROFESSOR; CURATOR OF THE STÄDEL'SCHES KUNSTITUT IN FRANKFURT, BIOGRAPHER OF RAPHAEL

Letter from J.D. Passavant to Dr. Ernst Becker sending photographs of three Raphael drawings in the Städel Institute in Frankfurt.

18 Feb 1859

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/396

Passavant reminds Becker of his request for copies of the photographs of the Raphel Cartoons (see VIC/ADDA10/85/391 and VIC/ADDA10/85/395). He now has the pleasure, at last, of sending the photographs of the three Raphael drawings in the Institute requested by Prince Albert.
In order to achieve this he had to go in person to the photographer, Herr Schäfer, and have the photography done in his presence. He is also sending a facsimile of one of the Institute's Raphael drawings of which he has already sent one, and is returning the hand-coloured photograph after the portrait of the Duke of Mantua which Becker sent for him to see.
