Letter from Gustav Waagen to Dr. Ernst Becker regarding Prince Albert's wish for un-retouched prints of the Raphael pictures in Berlin of which Waagen has sent photographs.

Waagen writes that he is delighted to hear from Becker's letter of 23 July (333, q.v.) that Prince Albert is satisfied with the photographs he sent. In response to the Prince's request for un-retouched prints, he went straight to the photographer (Oehme), who has unfortunately destroyed the negatives. He has, however, found prints of three of them from un-retouched plates, and Waagen will send these. He is willing to have the fourth picture photographed again if the Prince wishes, although the photographer will charge him 6 [thaler] for this, and three each for the existing un-retouched prints. He comments on the poor quality of the print with four figures, which he blames on the very brownish-yellow skin colour in the original.

Waagen states that he is leaving soon for a 6-week visit to Dresden and Nürnberg, so that he will not be able to arrange for the new photography - if required - until the end of September.

He asks Becker to thank the Prince for the very fine photograph of the Delaroche painting, which he knows, and thinks the photograph in some ways better than the original; and also for the photograph of the small Madonna at Panshanger, a happy memory for him. He would like to keep it if the Prince has another copy. Finally, he asks whether the Prince wants only an un-retouched print of the Duke of Terranuova's Raphael, or a retouched one as well.
