GUSTAV WAAGEN (1794-1868)

In reply to a letter (not present) from Dr. Ernst Becker, Waagen, who is in London, writes that he saw the late Professor [?Hanker]'s collection in Munich 33 years ago but has only an unfavourable recollection of it and could not comment on any particular painting after such a long time. However as the Prince Consort wants an opinion on the pictures, he will be happy to inspect them and send an annotated copy of the catalogue.
He states that he has written to The Times about 'the so-called pre-Raphaelites' and asks Becker to draw his letter to the Prince's attention. He asks to see the remaining portfolios of the Prince's Raphael collection, and asks Becker to remind the Prince of his promise to give orders for him to see the drawings at Windsor and the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace. If possible, he would like to see the Prince again, if only briefly.
