DR H HÄRTEL
Letter from Dr. Härtel of Leipzig to Dr. Ernst Becker thanking him for photographs sent to him in addition to those he has already received through the generosity of the Prince Consort.
21 Jul 1859Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/410
Härtel writes to thank Dr. Ernst Becker for two photographs he has received, which are a valuable addition to the series he has already been sent thanks to the generosity of the Prince Consort. He does not wish to burden HRH with another letter of thanks. He is delighted to hear that the drawings in Oxford are to be photographed next; he remembers with pleasure the time he spent there with Dr. Wellesley. The drawings, being largely in ink, will lend themselves particularly well to photography, and the study of art will be greatly enhanced when all the surviving drawings by Raphael are available in such faithful reproductions.
