SIR DOMINIC COLNAGHI (1834-1908)
Letter from Dominic Colnaghi to Dr. Ernst Becker in reply to his enquiries about a Raphael Madonna in Dresden and about the 'Madre de Raffaelle' picture.

Colnaghi thanks Dr Becker for his letter of the previous day (not present). He reports that there are three Madonnas after Raphael in the list of the 'Dresden Gallery' [presumably the catalogue of the works in that gallery]: the 'Saint Sisto' [Sistine Madonna}, the 'Sedia' and the 'Belle Jardiniére'; but as the plates are not numbered and are not always bound in the same order, he is unsure which is the one Prince Albert wants.
He has received the print of the 'Madre di Raffaelle', which was so named by the Florentine engraver Perfetti; he remembers [Picciani's] engraving and thinks it is of the same picture. He will write again when he has found out more about the picture.
