LENOIR, D.

Letter from D. Lenoir, from Munich, to Dr. Ernst Becker sending a newspaper article about his art collection and asking whether he has received the photograph he commissioned from Herr Albert of the Raphael [in Lenoir's collection] in May.

3 Dec 1857

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/358

Lenoir writes that he knows from Dr. Becker's visit to him on 2 May that he is an art connoisseur, and thinks he may therefore be interested to read an article about Lenoir's Kunstkabinet (art collection) which has appeared in the Neue Münchener Zeitung following a visit by the distinguished art and literary critic Julius Grosse, the court painter Professor Vogel von Vogelstein, the art critic Herr Kugler from Berlin and another gentleman. Lenoir was surprised and delighted by the article, and sends the newspaper with his letter. Lenoir goes on to remind Becker that he had expressed a wish to have a photograph of the Raphael [in Lenoir's collection] and had commissioned Herr Albert, from Augsburg, to take it. Lenoir has seen the photograph and thinks it a success. But he is concerned that Becker may not have received it, as Herr Albert is very forgetful and indeed forgot about the commission for 8 weeks after it was given. Note by Becker at the top of the letter: replied 12 December 1857.
