COUNT CARL TASCHER DE LA PAGERIE
Letter from Count Tascher de la Pagerie to [Dr. Ernst Becker] promising to send information about a Raphael picture in Spain and recommending a German violinist.
21 May 1858Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/307
Writing from Paris, the Count promises to collect what information he can about the Raphael picture, which will be easier because Countess Montijo is in Paris at the moment, and then to arrange for a good photograph of it to be sent to Becker. He goes on to recommend a young German virtuoso violinist, Fräulein Sophie Hummler, who has twice won second prize at the Conservatoire, and whom he thinks the Queen and Prince would appreciate.
A note by Becker on the back of the letter states that the Raphael is in the palace of the Duke of Alba in Madrid.
