Letter from Colonel Charles Beaumont Phipps to J.T. Delane
13 Dec 1849Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/60
Letter from Colonel Charles Beaumont Phipps to J.T. Delane thanking him for the information he had forwarded. He explains the way in which clothing for the Scots Fusiliers Guards is arranged and confirms Delane's assertion that Prince Albert would want payment for employment to be fair. However, he also explains that it would be difficult for the Prince to 'pry' into the transactions between the clothiers and their workplace. Additionally, he writes that it is difficult to convince the soldiers, who had to buy their own 'necessaries', to pay more for articles of greater quality.
