COMMANDANT CHARLES-BENOÎT PALIARD
'La Chronique des Arts', supplement to the 'Gazette des Beaux -Arts', containing an article by Charles-Benoît Paliard about Raphael's frescoes for the Stanza dell'Incendio.
6 Aug 1882Loose printed papers | 1 document (8 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/564
In the article, Paliard attributes Raphael's inclusion of three painted Egyptian telamons in his frescoes in the Stanza dell'Incendio to the artist's having seen the antique statues on which they are based at Tivoli in 1516, as evinced by a letter from Pietro Bembo of 3 April 1516 mentioning an excursion to Tivoli with Raphael.
Enclosed with Paliard's letter to the Royal Librarian at Windsor (see VIC/ADDA10/85/563).
