Prince Albert's Personal Papers

Papers relating to Prince Albert’s personal life and enthusiasms

Copy letter from Charles Ruland to the Rev. Fredrick Sutton asking permission to photograph his picture, ascribed to Perugino.

15 Jul 1861

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/174

Ruland writes that on his visit to the exhibition at the British Institution the Prince Consort was struck by a picture ascribed to Perugino, of St Michael triumphing over Satan, which belongs to Sutton, and which has a close affinity with a picture in the National Gallery ascribed by some critics to Raphael. Ruland asks whether Sutton would allow his picture to be photographed for HRH, to be added to his Raphael Collection.
