Two seated women: one holding a staff-cross (left), and the other with three children (right)

c.1712-1760

Etching | 24.1 x 29.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852982

A reversed facsimile of a drawing catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the Musée du Louvre, Paris. Lettered with artists' names. Numbered at upper left: 158. Published in 'Cabinet du Roy', a set of etchings executed by Caylus reproducing drawings from the French Royal collection.

Ruland suggested that the drawing may be a first study for the group of Faith and Charity, painted by Raphael's workshop in the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican.
