An engraving reproducing, in reverse, the almost entirely destroyed fresco 'The sacrifice of Cain and Abel' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the second bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Lettered with publication details lower right. Trimmed to an arch at top. Second state. For an impression of the first state of this print, see RCIN 853653.

According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs.
