published c.1811-16Lithograph | 20.0 x 31.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853702
A lithograph by Piloty reproducing a detail of the figure of Christ from a drawing, once probably in Munich, after the almost entirely destroyed fresco 'The Resurrection' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the basamento of the thirteenth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Lettered with attribution of the composition to Raphael and signed by the printmaker. Printed within an imitation of a ruled pen and ink border. Published in Christian von Mannlich, Les Oeuvres Lithographiques, (1811-16), vol. 3, 32.
Les Oeuvres Lithographiques reproduced drawings then in the collection of the King of Bavaria.
According to Dacos (see Bibliographic References), the basamento paintings of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican were executed in grisaille and imitated bronze reliefs.
