AFTER A WORK PREVIOUSLY ATTRIBUTED TO RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)
The Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple
c.1853-76Carbon print | 14.7 x 22.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852687
A photograph of a drawing formerly attributed to Raphael, catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of M. de Savigny at Berlin. Ruland described it as a first pen and ink sketch by Raphael for his fresco of 'The Expulsion of Heliodorus from the Temple', executed in 1511-12 in the Stanza di Eliodoro in the Vatican. A handwritten note by N. Turner below the photograph suggests an attribution to Allegrini.
