AFTER A WORK ATTRIBUTED TO VINCENZO TAMAGNI (1492-C. 1530)

The Creation of Eve

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 22.0 x 18.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853369

A photograph of a sketch catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the possession of H.Reveley, Esq., now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (inv.no.11.66.11).

Attributed to Vincenzo Tamagni, it is suggested that the sketch is a copy of a study by Raphael for the fresco the 'Creation of Eve' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the vault of the second bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. The sketch bears the collector's mark of Henry Reveley (Lugt 1356).
