AFTER GIOVANNI FRANCESCO PENNI (1496-C. 1536)

Noah's Sacrifice

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 20.0 x 22.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853408

A photograph of a drawing catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of the Grand Duke of Saxe Weimar. The drawing seems to be another earlier copy of a now lost drawing of the same composition by Giovanni Francesco Penni, which served as a preparatory design for the fresco of Noah's Sacrifice painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the vault of the third bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. For another copy of the drawing by Penni, see RCIN 853406.
