AFTER A WORK ATTRIBUTED TO NICOLAS POUSSIN (1594-1665)

Lot's family flees Sodom

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 17.1 x 17.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853431

A photograph of a pen and bistre wash catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of William Russell. The drawing closely resembles the fresco 'Lot's family flees Sodom' painted by the workshop of Raphael (c.1517-19) in the vault of the fourth bay of the Raphael Loggia in the Vatican. Ruland catalogued this drawing as being after the fresco and probably by Nicholas Poussin.
