An etching after one of the compositions generally thought to have been painted in monochrome on the window-embrasures of the Stanza di Eliodoro in the Vatican; reproduced in reverse. Lettered with artists' names and publishing line. Bible quote along the lower margin (Genesis, Cap. 41).
Published in Picturae omniumque bonarium Artium Cultori eximio..., a series of 15 plates (including title-page with dedication to Nicolò Simonelli) reproducing monochromes supposedly designed by Raphael for the Vatican stanze and the Sistine Chapel tapestries. The plates were etched by Pietro Santi Bartoli and the series was published in Rome by Gian Giacomo de Rossi. For further discussion, see Bibliographic References.
A related drawing formerly attributed to Raphael for this composition was catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the Royal Collection at Stockholm. A photograph of the drawing at RCIN 852788.
