AFTER RAPHAEL (1483-1520)

Group of nude figures in a variety of poses

published 1842

Etching | 22.5 x 30.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852431

A facsimile reproducing a portion of a drawing by Raphael (c.1508-09) currently in the Städel Museum, Graphische Sammlung, Frankfurt am Main (inv. no.379). Lettered with page number at top right and publisher's details below image.

According to Ruland (1876), this print is based upon a facsimile of the Städel drawing by Count Caylus (see RCIN 852429), and was published in Reynold's Lectures.

The Städel drawing is a preliminary study for the lower left section of the Disputa (The Disputation of the Holy Sacrament), painted by Raphael in the Stanza della Segnatura in the Vatican between 1508 and 1511. A photograph of the drawing can be found at RCIN 852426.
