Allegorical figure of the Church [from the Sala di Costantino]

dated 1635

Etching | 19.4 x 14.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852950

A print reproducing, in reverse, the allegorical figure of the Church, painted next to St Peter to the left of the fresco of 'The Vision of the Cross', executed by Raphael's workshop in the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican between 1520 and 1524. Dated and lettered with production details. Numbered at lower left: 8. Not in Ruland (1876).

This print is listed as an addition in the master copy of Ruland's catalogue (1876). Nevertheless, this is pasted on the folio sheet and the organisation of the Raphael Collection is believed to have been largely completed by 1876.
