REMY VUIBERT (1600-51)

Allegorical figure of Prudence [from the Sala di Costantino]

1635

Etching | 19.4 x 11.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852987

A print reproducing the allegorical figure of Prudence, painted to the left of Pope Damasus I in the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican by Raphael's workshop between 1520 and 1524. Lettered with artists' names. Date is cut off at lower right. Late state with publisher's address and publishing date (1700). From a series of plates reproducing allegorical figures from Raphael's Stanze, executed by Vuibert in 1635. Not in Ruland (1876).

This print is listed as an addition in the master copy of Ruland's catalogue (1876). Nevertheless, this is pasted on the folio sheet and the organisation of the Raphael Collection is believed to have been largely completed by 1876.
