Alexander Preserving the Works of Homer

This print is a anonymous copy in reverse of an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi dated c.1520, based upon a drawing by Raphael now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv. no.WA1935.152). First state of two, before Salamanca's address. Laid down on a backing sheet annotated in pencil on the back. With losses along the upper and lower edge, filled in with pen and ink marks. Not listed in Ruland (1876).

The copy differs from Marcantonio's original in a few details, including that only two figures, not five, hold spears. For a first state impression of Marcantonio's engraving and further discussion, see RCIN 852517.
