ADOLPHE BRAUN (1812-77)
A young man wearing a plumed hat [from 'The Donation of Constantine']
after 1860Carbon print | 27.9 x 22.4 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 852944
A photograph showing a detail from the fresco of The Donation of Constantine, painted by Raphael's workshop in the Sala di Costantino in the Vatican between 1520 and 1524. The figure is painted in the right foreground of the fresco. Not in Ruland (1876). An undated annotation in the master copy of Ruland's catalogue (housed in the Lower Library at Windsor Castle) describes the photograph as by A. Braun.
This photograph is listed as an addition in the master copy of Ruland's catalogue (1876). Nevertheless, this is pasted on the folio sheet and the organisation of the Raphael Collection is believed to have been largely completed by 1876.
