AFTER TOMMASO DI ANDREA VINCIDOR (D. 1536)

A putto standing on a sphere hanging onto a tree with two putti seated on either side

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 18.9 x 28.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 853324

A photograph of a drawing catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of W. Russell, now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (inv. no.D.8-1885). The drawing has been connected with a set of tapestries commissioned by Pope Leo X traditionally known as the 'Giuochi di putti’. It has been suggested that the drawing may be a modello for one of the tapestries. For further discussion about the 'Giuochi di putti' set, see Bibliographic References.
