AFTER A WORK ATTRIBUTED TO RAPHAEL (1483-1520)

The head of a man

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 11.6 x 10.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 854431

A photograph of a drawing probably by Raphael (c.1504-1505) now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no. 467). Annotated on the verso.

Joannides (see Bibliographic References) catalogued this drawing as by Raphael but raised the possibility that it could be a later drawing by a pupil. Many scholars do not accept the attribution to Raphael, as explained in the catalogue of the Italian drawings in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (see Bibliographic References).
