AFTER RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

Study of a standing male figure, and of his right leg and foot

c.1853-76

Albumen print | 23.8 x 14.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851596

A photograph of a drawing by Raphael (c.1504-05) now in the British Museum, London (inv. no.Pp. I-65 v). It has been suggested that the figure may be a study for a figure of St Peter (Pouncey/Gere 1962; Joannides 1983).

This drawing is on the verso of a depiction of a nude man, which is a study of Michelangelo's David (see RCIN 854315 for a photograph of the recto).
