A print after a painting when in the Orléans Gallery. Lettered with title and production details. Published in 'Recueil de Crozat’, 1729, I, 19. The painting, which is reported as having been subsequently in the possession of Lord Berwick and Lord Clifford at Tintern Abbey, Chepston, is a copy of the 'St John the Baptist in the Desert', a painting by the workshop of Raphael after designs by the master (c.1517-18) now in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.1446).
