CARL RAHL (1812-65)

Saint Margaret

c.1832-1855

Engraving with etching | 42.6 x 30.8 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851501

A print reproducing a composition closely resembling that of the 'Saint Margaret', a painting currently in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.607), the execution of which is generally ascribed to Giulio Romano after designs by Raphael (c.1518). Ruland (1876) suggested that this print may be after an old copy of the painting then in Vienna (?). Lettered with title and dedication. A photograph of the original painting in the Louvre at RCIN 851497.
