AFTER? RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

A study of a seated male youth with his right arm raised up

c.1860-76

Carbon print | 31.1 x 24.9 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851510

A photograph of a drawing now in the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.545E). The drawing is closely related to the 'St John the Baptist in the Desert', a painting by the workshop of Raphael after designs by the master (c.1517-18) now in the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence (inv. no.1446). The authorship of the drawing - which has been long attributed to Raphael - is a matter of dispute. Photographs of other existing similar drawings at RCINs 851511, 851512, 851513.
