AFTER A WORK COPYING THE SCHOOL OF RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

Joseph's Cup discovered in Benjamin's sack of grain

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 12.4 x 25.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850212

A photograph of a drawing which is a copy of a drawing now in the Louvre, Paris (inv.no. 4258) depicting Joseph's Cup discovered in Benjamin's sack. Ruland (1876) catalogued the drawing as being then in the collection of Prince Esterhazy, Vienna. Annotated on the verso.

The drawing in the Louvre is currently attributed to a member of Raphael's workshop and it has been suggested that the drawing is related to an unexecuted composition for the Raphael Logge, painted in the Vatican by Raphael's workshop (c.1517-1519). See Bibliographic References. See RCIN 850211 for a photograph of the drawing in the Louvre.
