The Flight into Egypt
c.1540-60Engraving | 27.7 x 20.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850507
An engraving by Giulio Bonasone depicting The Flight into Egypt. Signed by the printmaker with his monogram. Trimmed within the platemark.
This engraving was traditionally (Ruland, Bartsch) believed to be a copy after a print by Martin Schongauer (see RCIN 850508 for a photograph of it) but Massari (see Bibliographic References) catalogued it as being after a now lost design by Raphael which is known through a drawing dubitatively attributed to Timoteo Viti now in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no. 1359F).
