The Crucifixion

published 1803

Etching | 25.3 x 20.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850539

An outline etching depicting The Crucifixion. This print is lettered with "338" at the upper right corner, the title in French, German and English at the bottom of the print and the identification of Raphael as the painter. Signed by the printmaker. This print was published as plate 338 in C.P. Landon, 'Vie et Œuvre complète de Raphaël Sanzio', 1803.

For an engraving of the same subject by the Master of the Die, which could have been the source for this etching, see RCIN 850539. Massari (see Bibliographic References) noted a relationship between the engraving and a drawing by Raphael depicting Christ on the Cross now in Biblioteca Marucelliana, Florence (vol. E 84).
