The Adoration of the Shepherds
published 1803Etching | 18.5 x 25.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850492
An outline etching depicting The Adoration of the shepherds. This print is lettered with "224" at the upper right corner, the title in French, German and English at the bottom of the print and the identification of Raphael as the painter. Signed by the printmaker. This print was published as plate 224 in C.P. Landon, Vie et Œuvre complète de Raphaël Sanzio, 1803.
For a similar print by Adamo Ghisi, which could have been the source for this print, see RCIN 850491. The engraving by Ghisi is based on a composition by Giulio Romano, now probably lost. A drawing by Giulio now in the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, Rome (F.C. 124257) shares some similarities with the engraving.
