AFTER RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)
Study of a standing female figure (Venus), and of a seated child
c.1853-76Albumen print | 25.2 x 19.3 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851672
A photograph of two drawings conjoined together which were listed by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of J. Malcolm, Esq. The two figure studies appear to have been separated at some point after this photograph was taken. The drawing of the unclothed woman on the left dates c.1510 and is now in the British Museum, London (inv. no.1895,0915.629); it relates closely to the figure of Venus in an engraving by Raimondi after a Raphael design. An impression of the engraving by Raimondi at RCIN 851670.
