CONRAD MARTIN METZ (1749-1827)

Leda and the Swan

c.1789-1798

Etching, printed in brown | 36.4 x 29.2 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851737

A facsimile of a drawing when in the collection of Benjamin West. The drawing is erroneously attributed on plate to Raphael. This print is probably part of a larger publication of one-hundred-and-thirty-nine prints by Conrad Metz reproducing drawings by Old Masters and modern artists, called "Imitations of Ancient and Modern Drawings". The first edition was published in 1789, the second in 1798.
