Mythology & Putti

Children and putti playing

c.1860-76

Carbon print | RCIN 851878

A photograph of a drawing now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.3887).

Another drawing of this subject survives in the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf (inv. no.D.208; photograph at RCIN 851877). The composition was also reproduced in a chiaroscuro by the Monogrammist NDB, an impression of which can be found at RCIN 851879. Scholars have pointed out connections between this composition and the so-called 'Giuochi di putti', a set of tapestries designed by Giovanni da Udine/Tommaso Vincidor and woven in Flanders for Leo X. • Acquired for the Prince Consort's Raphael Collection (c.1860-76)
