Ceres / Abundance ('Dovizia')
c.1848-1876Engraving | RCIN 851654
A print after a painting now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.657). Not listed in Ruland's Raphael Collection catalogue (1876).
The painting, which is attributed on plate to Raphael but is now generally ascribed to Giulio Romano, is the cover of the so-called 'Small Holy Family', a work also in Louvre (inv. no.605) attributed to the workshop of Raphael. The figure has been interpreted either as Abundance or Ceres (see S. Béguin, in 'Raphael dans les collections françaises' 1983, no.15). A photograph of the 'Small Holy Family' at RCIN 851054.
