An engraving after a design by Raphael. First state; lettered with 8 lines of verse below image. Signed on plate with engraver's monogram at lower right (a die with the letter B; see Nagler, I, no.1563). A second state impression at RCIN 851722.

The composition was reproduced in a chiaroscuro woodcut by Ugo da Carpi (dated on plate 1518), an impression of which is at RCIN 851823. For a discussion on the relationship between the two prints, see Bibliographic References.
