AFTER A WORK ATTRIBUTED TO BIAGIO PUPINI (ACTIVE 1511-AFTER 1575)

A Group of Putti

c.1860-76

Carbon print | 10.7 x 27.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851920

A photograph of a drawing now in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, Milan (inv. no.3617), where it is currently catalogued as by Biagio Pupini (attribution suggested by Konrad Oberhuber). The drawing closely resembles in composition an engraving by the Master of the Die (RCIN 851918), the original design of which was ascribed by Bartsch to Raphael.
