The Apostles looking at Christ and Virgin in Glory
published 1803Etching | 19.4 x 24.7 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 851429
An outline-etching reproducing a composition wrongly attributed on plate to Raphael. The composition is thought to derive from a design by Giulio Romano, and is better known through a print by Léon Davent (RCIN 851428.a) which is part of a bigger composition (in four plates) depicting the Apostles looking at Christ and the Virgin in glory. As the lettering on the print makes clear, the subject was mistaken for a scene from the Pentecost. Published in C.P. Landon, 'Vie et Œuvre complète de Raphaël Sanzio', 1803, plate 422.
