A facsimile etching reproducing (in reverse) a drawing now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (inv. no.851267). A photograph of the drawing at RCIN 851267.

The Louvre drawing is a copy of a study by Raphael drawn on the verso of a sheet now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv. no.519v). Other copies of Raphael's study survive in the British Museum, London (inv. nos.1895-9-15-623, 1900-8-24-115) and in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle (RCIN 912741).

The photograph shows the full-length Virgin, seated to the right, holding the Christ Child on her lap and supporting Him with both hands. The Child looks down at the Infant Baptist who sits on the ground at left and is seen from behind.
