Holy Families & Madonna and Child

VINCENZO GOZZINI (19TH CENTURY)

The Virgin and Child with St Elizabeth and St John the Baptist

c.1800-1876

Lithograph | 43.0 x 32.1 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850928

A lithograph after a painting which, according to Ruland (1876), was once in the collection of the Reverend John Sanford, vicar of Nynehead Court, Somerset and in the Methuen Collection at Corsham Court, Wiltshire, at the time the Raphael Collection catalogue was published. Lettered with production details.

The painting is a replica of the so-called 'Madonna del Divino Amore’, a painting currently attributed to Raphael’s workshop and housed in the Museo e Gallerie Nazionali di Capodimonte, Naples. See RCIN 850910 for a print after this painting.

Showing the seated Virgin holding the blessing Christ Child on her legs, with St Elizabeth at her side and the Young St John the Baptist kneeling down on the left; in an entirely different background.
