The Virgin and Child with Holy Figures

A facsimile of a drawing attributed to Raphael now in the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh (inv. no.D5342), related to the so-called ‘Madonna del Pesce’, a painting by Raphael and his workshop now in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no.297). Published in ‘Lawrence Gallery. A series of facsimiles of original drawings by Raffaelle da Urbino’, London 1841, plate 20. Photographs of the drawings can be found at RCINs 850957, 850958. At the time this print was published, the drawing was owned by the Prince d’Orange. It was later listed by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of the Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar. Showing the enthroned Virgin holding the Christ Child with both hands, with the Archangel Raphael presenting the young Tobias who kneels down while holding a fish on the left, and St Jerome with an open book and his lion on the right.
