As lettered on the print, the painting was once in the Galerie du Palais Royal in Paris, and was in the collection of the Marquis of Stafford in London at the time this print was made. In Ruland's Raphael Collection catalogue (1876), the painting is catalogued as being then in the Bridgewater Gallery in London, property of the Earl of Ellesmere.
Showing the seated Virgin looking at the Infant Christ who lies across on her lap, and turns His head back while grasping her veil; in an interior.
