The Virgin and Child reading in a landscape
c.1853-76Albumen print | 29.4 x 21.6 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850688
A photograph of an arch topped painting formerly attributed to Raphael described by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of Sig. Salvatore Originali, Rome. Lettered with title and production details.
The painting imitates the group of the Virgin and Child as seen in Raphael's Ansidei Madonna (1505; National Gallery, London, inv. no.NG 1171). Differently from Raphael’s painting, here the Virgin holds a book in her left hand. See RCIN 850685 for a photograph of Raphael's painting.
