An engraving after a painting currently attributed to Sassoferrato now in the Louvre (inv. no.646). Lettered with the title and production details. As lettered on the print, the Louvre painting was then thought to be by Raphael.
The painting is a copy of Raphael’s ‘Conestabile Madonna’ (c.1503-04; Hermitage, inv. no.GS 252). See RCIN 850645 for a photograph of the Hermitage painting.
Another copy by Sassoferrato after the same picture was formerly in the collection of Sir Frederick Cook at Doughty House (see T. Borenius, 'A catalogue of the Paintings at Doughty House, Richmond & elsewhere in the collection of Sir Frederick Cook', 1913, vol.I, p.88, under no.78)
